Bowmore Captivo

Captivo is a 20-year-old Islay single malt Scotch whisky from the limited Captivo Collection. Created in collaboration with New York design studio Snarkitecture, it combines Bowmore’s distinctive Islay character with carefully selected oak maturation. This expression is matured for two decades in American oak ex-Bourbon casks. It is then finished in American oak Oloroso sherry butts, adding further richness and complexity to the whisky.

Bottled at 50.8% ABV, Bowmore Captivo offers a powerful yet refined drinking experience. The higher strength allows the whisky’s layered character to develop beautifully in the glass. On the nose, warm and rich chestnut aromas appear first. Salted toffee, dried fruit and orange peel add sweetness and freshness. Notes of tobacco and Manuka honey bring additional depth.

On the palate, dark cherry and candied orange provide a rich fruity character. Manuka honey adds a distinctive sweetness, while cool eucalyptus creates an unexpected fresh note. Toasted oak contributes warmth and structure. The characteristic Bowmore smoke remains present but is deliberately restrained. Instead of dominating the whisky, a delicate campfire note develops towards the finish. The finish is smooth and warming, with soft vanilla sweetness, toasted oak and a subtle whisper of smoke. The combination of fruit, honey, oak and gentle peat creates a complex and well-balanced expression.

Bowmore Captivo is best enjoyed neat to appreciate its full depth. A few drops of water can open the whisky further and reveal additional layers of fruit, honey and spice. This expression is ideal for collectors and whisky enthusiasts who appreciate mature Islay single malts with sophisticated oak influence.
